Introductions

Hi,
My name is Faye Stacey. I grew up in Cape Town, South Africa and spent most of my teenage and adult life living in London in the United Kingdom. Growing up in South Africa my childhood was rich with history and culture experiences and I grew up on the beach and the mountains. I developed a love for swimming, hiking, nature, animals, endless adventure and if I am not outdoors I would always prefer to be making pottery and eating good food! Traveling was my best education.

I now live in East Austin with my husband John, a native Texan/Australian and serious adventurer, and our two cattle dogs Tessie and Luna. We moved together to Austin , two years ago, to get away from big city life in London, and enjoy spending our weekends diving, traveling and camping around the US and Mexico.

I gained an Associates degree in counseling and art therapy in London and worked for a non profit called The Place2Be. I did in school social services and case management for at risk elementary schools, providing one to one counseling, family support groups and teacher training in dropout prevention and emotional education. This was the best job I ever had however I knew I needed to improve my own education and quality of life and so decided to come to St Edwards to achieve those goals. This is my FINAL class at St Edwards before I graduate ( I just finished my capstone this week!) and then I plan to take some time to find some good work experience and return to get my masters in Social Work at UT in a year.

I am in the process of getting my green card and would like to work for a local non-profit that focuses on education such as Communities in Schools, College Forward or Urban Roots.
